Biography

Prof. Katherine Blundell is professor of Astrophysics at Oxford University, where she is also a University Research Fellow of the Royal Society and a Science Research Fellow of St John’s College, Oxford. Previously she was a Research Fellow of the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 and before that she was a Research Fellow at Balliol College, Oxford.
Her research interests include the physics of active galaxies – such as quasars – the formation of these objects at early times and their lifecycles. Her research work on extreme sources of energy in the Universe makes less daunting the challenge of the energy problem to be solved on Earth.
She has written numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and a book, together with Professor Stephen Blundell, called “Concepts in Thermal Physics’ which was published by Oxford University Press in July 2006.
